Kraiburg and Batchelor Enterprises Ltd are offering throughout the two days informed talks to be presented by Dr Nick Bell MA VETMB PHD MRCVS, University of Bristol.

The subject to be: - Cows and concrete just don’t mix well.  Standing times on concrete are an important cause of lameness and poor foot health in dairy cows.  But the benefits to cow health and performance are far greater and wider reaching them we ever imagined previously.  I will review some of the research studies that have demonstrated benefits to cow health and productivity and demonstrate some of the hazards that have been very effectively remedied on farms in the UK.

Summary

•        Relationship between standing on concrete and claw horn disease.
•    The significance of standing comfort and how this impacts on cow behaviour (and hence performance).
•    Targeting standing and walking areas for improvement using rubber yard mats and identifying the measurable benefits.
