BEL Ground Protection Mesh for ground protection and stabilisation

Installation Instructions

BEL GROUND PROTECTION MESH - Permanent applications:                                                                       Left

Cut the grass short and ensure that the area is as level as possible and clear of any excessive undulations. Infill any hollows with a mixture of fine topsoil and sharp sand.

Unroll the grid over the area to be protected and secure one end with metal fixing pins, then down each side every ½ metre and finally the other end of the roll. Where a wide area is to be protected, butt the edges of the roll together and secure by placing a metal fixing pin across each edge. Also pin down any area of the mesh which is not in contact with the grass.

Cover the area with a layer of topsoil and sharp sand. This will encourage early root growth around the mesh filaments and increase stability.

Apply a suitable grass seed and fertilizer dressing at approximately 30g/m2 over areas which were previously bare of grass or which received more than 25mm covering of topsoil and sand.

Vehicles and livestock should be kept off the area until the Ground protection and stabilisationgrass has grown at least 25mm.

BEL GROUND PROTECTION MESH - Temporary applications:

Left

As with permanent applications, ensure that the area is as flat as possible with hollows filled in and excessive undulations removed.

Unroll the grid over the area to be protected and pin down as before but with pins positioned every ½ metre down each side and down the centre of the roll.

Notes:
If the mesh is being laid over clay soil, it is recommended that a suitable drainage system is installed to allow for removal of surface water. Furthermore, if the ground is particularly soft, professional advice should be sought.
